WHAT IS SPANNED VOLUME AND STRIPED VOLUME

WHAT IS SPANNED VOLUME AND STRIPED VOLUME

You probably  heard about Spanned volume and striped volume, if you didn't the don't worry Tech support solution got you caved, i will tell you everything you need to know about Spanned volume and Striped volume, what are they, different between them, and why there are important, so lets start

First you need to know the meaning .

SPANNED VOLUME: Is the way of combining two or more disks {either two or more flash drive or hard drive} into one large drive,

With a spanned volume, you can combine sections of unallocated space from multiple dynamic disks into one large volume. The areas of  unallocated space used to create spanned volumes can be different sizes. Spanned volumes are organized sequentially—that is, data are written in space on each disk until that disk is full and then continues  with the next disk until the volume size is reached

NOTE: Spanning volumes across multiple disk controllers is not recommended

STRIPED VOLUME - Striped volumes are created by combining areas of free space on two or more disks into one logical volume. Data is divided into blocks and spread in a fixed order among all the disks in the
volume. With a striped volume, data is written to multiple disks, similar to spanned volumes.
However, striping writes files across all disks so that data is added to all disks at the same rate.

This means,if you copy a 4gb data into a 4 disk created striped volume that data will be divided into 1gb in all disks at the same time

Striped volume offer the best read write speed, but if one disk fail you loose all of your data,  different from Spanned volume which when one disk fail your can still get your data is there where small enough to fit in other disk.
