What you should know about Google contact lens

In  2014 Google announced a smart contact lens project,The aims to assist people with diabetes by constantly measuring the glucose levels in their tears using a wireless chip and a miniaturized glucose sensor. A tiny pinhole in the lens allows for tear fluid to seep into the sensor to measure blood sugar levels then sends data  wirelessly to an external device for processing ,

Both of the sensors are embedded between two soft layers of lens material, a wireless antenna inside of the contact that is thinner than a human’s hair is used to communicate and receive power at the same time to power the sensor chip.

The tested prototypes was able to generate a reading once per second also they wanted to add a tiny LED lights that could light up to indicate that glucose levels have crossed above or below certain thresholds.
The lens is an easy way to monitor glucose in tears as you can imagine, tears are hard to collect and study

“Our dream is to use the latest technology in the miniaturization of electronics to help improve the quality of life for millions of people”  said  Google co-founder Sergey Brin.
